Dry Eye & IPL
What is Dry Eye?
Dry eye occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears or when tears evaporate too quickly. This can lead to irritation, inflammation, and unstable vision.
Common Symptoms
Dry eye symptoms may include:
-
Burning or stinging
-
Gritty or sandy sensation
-
Redness
-
Blurry or fluctuating vision
-
Watery eyes
-
Light sensitivity
-
Eye fatigue, especially with screen use
What Causes Dry Eye?
A common cause of dry eye is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), where the oil glands in the eyelids become blocked. These glands help prevent tears from evaporating too quickly. When they are not working properly, dry eye symptoms can occur.
What is IPL Therapy?
Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is an in-office treatment that uses gentle pulses of light to reduce inflammation and improve the function of the eyelid oil glands.
By improving gland function, IPL helps address the underlying cause of dry eye, not just the symptoms.
What to Expect
IPL treatments are quick, typically lasting 15–20 minutes. Most patients benefit from a series of treatments spaced several weeks apart.
