Comprehensive Eye Exams
Your vision plays a vital role in your daily life — from reading and driving to working and enjoying time with family. Routine eye exams are essential not only for clear vision, but also for maintaining long-term eye health.

What Is a Comprehensive Eye Exam?
A comprehensive eye exam is a thorough evaluation of your vision and overall eye health. It goes beyond a simple vision screening and allows your provider to detect early signs of eye disease — often before symptoms begin.
During your visit, we assess:
-
Visual acuity (how clearly you see at various distances)
-
Refraction (determining your glasses or contact lens prescription)
-
Eye alignment and focusing ability
-
Peripheral (side) vision
-
Eye pressure testing
-
Detailed evaluation of the retina and optic nerve
-
Screening for eye diseases

Conditions We Screen For
Many eye conditions develop gradually and may not cause noticeable symptoms in early stages. Routine exams help detect:
-
Glaucoma
-
Macular degeneration
-
Cataracts
-
Diabetic retinopathy
-
Dry eye disease
-
Retinal disorders
Early detection allows for earlier treatment and better long-term outcomes.

How Often Should You Have an Eye Exam?
We typically recommend:
-
Children: As directed by pediatrician or eye care provider
-
Adults under 60: Every 1–2 years
-
Adults over 60: Annually
-
Patients with diabetes, glaucoma, or other risk factors: As recommended by your provider
Your exam schedule may vary based on your individual needs.

What to Expect at Your Appointment
Most comprehensive exams take approximately 60–90 minutes. Your eyes may be dilated during the visit to allow a better view of the retina and optic nerve. If dilation is performed, you may experience temporary light sensitivity and blurred near vision for several hours.
We recommend bringing:
-
Your current glasses or contact lenses
-
A list of medications
-
Insurance information
-
Any questions or concerns you may have
