Botox
What is Botox?
Botox® is a purified protein that temporarily relaxes specific muscles. In ophthalmology, it is commonly used to treat certain conditions that affect the eyelids and muscles around the eyes.
Conditions Botox Can Help Treat
Botox may be used to treat:
-
Blepharospasm (involuntary eyelid spasms)
-
Hemifacial spasm
-
Eyelid twitching
-
Strabismus (eye misalignment) in certain cases
By relaxing overactive muscles, Botox can help reduce spasms and improve comfort and function.
What to Expect
Botox injections are performed in the office and typically take only a few minutes. Most patients experience minimal discomfort, and normal activities can usually be resumed shortly after treatment.
Results generally begin to appear within a few days to two weeks and may last 3–4 months.
